Calling All Former West High Sorority and Fraternity Members
The bygone-era of annual rush parties, pledging, secret rituals, ceremonies and hell nights that once existed at Western Hills High School, from 1928 until 1979, remains only in the memories of former sorority and fraternity members. But now, a group of West High alumni are working hard to locate all former sorority and fraternity members, to cordially invite them to reunite and reminisce at an upcoming Fraternity-Sorority Family and Friends picnic.
The picnic will take place, rain or shine, on Sunday, May 17, 2015, from Noon-6:00 p.m., at Fernbank Park’s Riverview Shelter House, 50 Thornton Ave. (off Route 50), in Sayler Park. BYO drinks (alcohol permitted) and picnic-type food. Grills and charcoal provided. Corn hole, horseshoes and games for the children are available to enjoy. (Note to those unable to attend: It’s an annual event, always held the Sunday after Mother’s Day at Fernbank Park – so mark your calendars in advance).
“If you belonged, you’re invited,” said event coordinator Ken Kay, a 1961 West High graduate and member of Triginta Optimi fraternity. “Last year was terrific! Over 100 members from the 1940s through the 1970s attended, representing the fraternities of Triginta Optimi, Chi Omega Sigma, Phi Delta Sigma, and Tri-Chi; and, the sororities of Tau Sigma Chi, Pi Delta Phi, Sub Deb, KYTYVEES, and Theta Alpha Pi. This year, we hope to double the attendance by reaching out to invite every former sorority and fraternity member, and their family and friends. Reconnecting and reminiscing is a guaranteed good time,” he added.
Alumni of Triginta Optimi fraternity began this annual event three years ago. Chi Omega Sigma alumni joined in the sponsorship and a committee, representing many of the organizations, formed to jointly locate members and to plan the festivities.
